Park View Primary School

Learning and Growing Together

Safeguarding

It is every school’s statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, as outlined by the DFE in it’s publication “Keeping Children Safe in Education.” This means that a school must protect children from maltreatment, prevent impairment of children’s health or development, ensure that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care and take action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

At Park View Primary School we ensure that everyone who comes into contact with children and their families is clear on the role that they play in safeguarding children.

Park View Primary School is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all children, staff and visitors. In addition, we promote an ethos where children and adults feel confident about sharing their concerns about their own safety or the wellbeing of others.

Our designated safeguarding officer is Mrs R McClean (Deputy Head Teacher) our deputy safeguarding leads are Mrs Collopy (Headteacher), Mr Toth (Assistant Head Teacher), Mr Wilkinson (SENDCo) and Miss R Watson (Out of School Club Manager).

We share regualr useful safeguarding information on our newsletter, via Class Dojo and emails.

Parents should be aware that the school will take any reasonable action to ensure the safety of its pupils. In cases where the school has reason to be concerned that a child may be subject to ill treatment, neglect or other forms of abuse, staff have no alternative but to follow Bury Safeguarding Partnership's Procedures and inform Social Services of their concern.

Where a child is absent from school for more than 10 days without permission or explanation, the school will follow Bury Council's Procedures for "Children Missing in Education"

Children Missing in Education Protocol

Park View Primary School is committed to the principles of safer recruitment and, as part of that, adopts recruitment procedures that help deter, reject and/or identify people who might abuse children. Safe recruitment processes are followed and all staff recruited to the school will be subject to appropriate identity, qualification and health checks.

Operation Encompass

We are part of the Operation Encompass project which supports children where domestic abuse has occurred.

Operation Encompass has been designed to provide early reporting to schools of any domestic abuse incidents that occur outside of school but which might have an impact on a child attending school the following day. This information will be shared on school days during the school term. When incidents occur on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, the police will contact the relevant school the following Monday.

A nominated member of school staff, known as a Key Adult, is trained to liaise with police.

At Park View Primary our Key Adult is Mrs Collopy (Mrs McClean in her absence). They are able to use information that has been shared with them, in confidence, to ensure that the school is able to support children and their families. Information will be shared where it is identified that a child or young person was present, witnessed or was involved in a domestic abuse incident.

We always endeavour to offer the best support possible to our pupils and believe that Operation Encompass is beneficial and supportive for all concerned - children and families.

In signing up to Encompass the Governing Body and Senior Leadership Team:

  • Have you got a serious concern about the safety of a child or young person up to the age of 18?
  • Do you think a child or young person is being harmed or is at risk of being harmed?
  • Are you worried that a child is living in circumstances where they are treated badly and not cared for properly?

At our school, we are committed to supporting every child and family through early intervention and a strong culture of care. We recognise that early help is key to ensuring children feel safe, supported, and ready to learn, and we work closely with families to identify and respond to any concerns as soon as possible.

Our school provides a welcoming and inclusive environment where parents and carers can seek advice, guidance, and practical support without hesitation. We collaborate with a range of services and professionals to ensure that families receive the right support at the right time. By building positive relationships and maintaining open communication, we aim to empower all families and help every child reach their full potential.
