Children's Mental Health and Wellbeing

Wellbeing and Early Support

At Park View, we prioritise the mental health and wellbeing of every pupil. We work closely with the Mental Health Support Team (MHST) to provide early intervention and tailored support for children who may be struggling with anxiety, low mood, or other emotional challenges.

Through this partnership, pupils can access confidential advice, small-group workshops, and one-to-one support in a safe and nurturing environment. Our approach ensures that children receive the help they need early, building resilience and promoting a positive, happy school experience for all.

Wellbeing Award for Schools

Here at Park View Primary School, we value the Emotional Wellbeing and Mental health (EWMH) of all our students and staff.

To show our commitment to wellbeing across the whole school community, we signed up to the Wellbeing Award for Schools accreditation. The aim is to change the long-term culture of schools, embedding an ethos where mental health is regarded as the responsibility of all.

About the Award

There are eight objectives to achieve within the Well-being Award Framework, containing several Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) set out within each. The award focuses on ensuring effective practice and provision is in place that promotes the emotional well-being and mental health of both staff and pupils. The award will enable us to develop these practices where necessary and help us to ensure that well-being is embedded in the long-term culture of our school. It will help us to create an ethos where mental health is regarded as the responsibility of all.

With this award, we will demonstrate our commitment to:

  • Promoting mental health as part of every day school life
  • Improving the emotional well-being of our staff and pupils
  • Ensuring mental health problems are identified early and appropriate support provided
  • Offering provision and interventions that matches the needs of our pupils and staff
  • Promoting the importance of mental health awareness
  • Capturing the views of parents, pupils and teachers on mental health issues

To achieve this vision, NCB advocates the use of a ‘whole-school approach’ where all aspects of the school experience are harnessed to promote the emotional wellbeing and mental health of pupils and staff.

Here are the outlines of each module every  child will study across the year:

Understand how your brain works and how to ensure we look after it so that we can manage our emotions and be at our best.

Understand your unique Character Strengths and learning to celebrate them. This is a fantastic module for building self-esteem.

Understanding why gratitude matters and how you can develop gratitude as a habit. Gratitude is key to well-being and resilience and we are all about making it a lifelong strategy!

Understanding why positive relationships matter and how to build them. We are focused on the building blocks of good relationships and friendships.

Understanding how to set meaningful goals that  matter and how to stay resilient in times of challenge. This module is all about building self-esteem and resilience too.
